I want to go camping.  I am really sore from lots of physical activity, but it feels good.

Skateboarding season is officially here.  Today was a breezy warm day and many people were at the skate park to take advantage of it.  I haven't had much physical activity this past week and so it was great to get out there and rip for a couple of hours.  I am pleasantly surprised to find that I have not fallen that far behind after a winter of no skateboarding, partly because of the snowboarding I've done.  Boarding has shown me the importance of balance and center of gravity and I greatly enjoyed my time on the concrete today.

I had a great weekend at PIT last weekend.  Alas these times speed by so quickly and the time before the next one is so far away.  Oh well, one cannot dwell on what is not readily available.

Snowboarding

Yesterday I went snowboarding.  There was good weather, cloudy with scattered flurries, and I had an awesome time.  It was nice to hit the slopes for the first time all winter.  I was pretty sore when I came home and today I am also sore although a little bit less than yesterday.  My break is almost over and soon it will be time to hit the books.

Too much killing!

Killing seems to be the way of our society, yet it doesn't seem to ever accomplish anything.  Death and killing may suppress a group of people physically but the ideals they hold will still be found in others who held them as role models.  To kill a group physically may destroy a threat to what one thinks is right but it will not make the remaining people eager to join the people who destroyed their livelihoods.  Although they may appear to have moved over to the "good" side, whichever that may be, they will most likely harbor feelings of anger or disappointment to the group that inflicted the pain.  It may seem honorable to some to die for a cause violently attempting to take down as many enemies down as possible, but once one is dead one can do no more for their cause but be remembered.  It takes many minds to solve problems, but if so many minds are destroyed there is less possibility for a solution to be found.
Would more people die if people reacted non-violently?  Non-violent reactions could very possibly result in less anger being present in the world and less resistance and more cooperation between various factions.  If there is less fear, it would make life much more enjoyable to live.

However beneficial war may be for the economy, are there more effective ways to boost the economy without causing death and destruction?  Would the economical benefits really outweigh all the loss?  Would it not be more effective to all work towards something, resulting in arriving there faster, instead of trying to hinder other people's progress in order to attain everything for oneself?  This would definitely  result in faster progress and avoid destroying all the progress that has already been made.  Does having angry neighbors make going for a walk more enjoyable, or would it be more pleasant to greet everyone with a jovial wave and a friendly greeting.

Upon viewing the Last Samurai I was sickened by the pointless bloodshed, so many being killed just to show that they really believe in what they are.  Isn't there a better way to do that?  A way that will allow them to continue being what they are.  This movie made me think of what my values are and what I see as honorable.  I see no honor in taking someone's life when it is still possible to find a way to live in peaceful co-existence.

I am feeling pretty good.  I generally feel on top of everything, I don't have a huge amount of homework and I have made progress with applications, etc.  I have also increased my mileage and am enjoying running outside and learning a lot about it.  We just started the semester but already we have another break, only two days next week and then a week off.  Lots of running for me!!
